Work Text:

Footsteps pound against the dirt ground, the hunters have finally returned. Jungkook is carrying the body of the monster his team took out. The small group of hunters follows their leader to the center of the town as everybody watches Jungkook toss the body down on the ground.

“Who requested this beast?” Jungkook calls out, looking around at the faces around him.

After someone raises their hand to claim the hunt, Jimin walks over to them to collect the coins for the quest. The team works out distributing the coins then all go their separate ways to rest for the rest of the day.

Jimin and Jungkook make it back to their home, Jimin collapsing onto the couch, completely worn out from the long quest. Jungkook walks to the kitchen to grab drinks for both of them.

“Here, take this, you need water.” Jungkook taps Jimin’s shoulder until the smaller sits up and takes the glass. Jungkook sits down on the couch and chugs the glass of water he brought for himself.

“Did you see her in the crowd?” Jimin asks, not making eye contact with Jungkook. Jungkook glances over to see Jimin staring at the wall.

He hates this. Whenever she would be out in the center of town when his team would return from a quest, Jimin would seem sad for the rest of the day. Of course, Jungkook knew why. She was the reason why he and Jimin almost didn’t end up together. She was the girl that almost took Jungkook away, and now, after Jungkook picked Jimin to spend the rest of his life with, she was furious.

That night, Jimin falls asleep, a fitful sleep in the arms of his husband. Waking up with the sun, Jimin groans as he clings to his husband, seeking warmth.

Jimin finally has to get out of bed, begrudgingly he pulls away from Jungkook’s warmth. He feels the brush of cold as he crawls out from the covers and walks out of the room, wrapping a blanket around his shoulders in an attempt to regain some lost heat.

After ten minutes in the kitchen, making coffee and slowly sipping it at the counter, Jimin hears light footsteps before heavy arms wrap around his small frame.

“Good morning,” Jungkook whispers, voice scratchy from sleep.

“Good morning, I think we have a quest in town today,” Jimin says, leaning back into Jungkook’s chest. “We need to start getting ready.”

“But I’m so tired, I think I need your help to shower and get ready,” Jungkook suggests, snuggling closer to Jimin, bringing his nose to his husband’s neck, fingers sneaking under the smaller’s shirt to tickle his husband’s sensitive skin.

After a shower that took twenty minutes longer than it should have, the couple rushes out the door to make it to the center of town in time.

The two race each other to the center, Jimin barely beating his husband to the rest of their team.

“Hey, there’s our favorite baby mage,” one of their team members calls out when Jimin stops in front of them, bent over, panting as he catches his breath. Jungkook is only a few steps behind the tiny mage he calls his husband, putting his hands up behind his head to help him catch his own breath.

The group finally starts to search out for the person who called them for a quest, leading to Jungkook running off to confirm. Jimin and the other two members stand around as they wait for their leader to return.

“So what kind of quest do you think they have for us?” One of the members asks as they wait.

“Um maybe someone needs herbs for potions?” Jimin suggests, looking around to try and spot his husband.

The small group talks for a few more minutes before they hear a light voice call out towards them.

“Jimin?” the voice made Jimin’s blood run cold. His hands start to shake, he needs Jungkook now.

Slowly turning around, Jimin forces himself to look at her. The girl in front of him looks as though she is on the brink of insanity, her eyes staring daggers at the scared boy in front of her.

“Where’s Jungkookie?” The girl presents a demonic smile that sent shivers rushing down Jimin’s spine.

“He’ll be here in a minute,” Jimin says, voice soft as he backs up to get closer to his team members.

She starts to move closer, getting close enough to grab Jimin by the collar of his shirt. People around the two turned to stare but nobody jumps in to help the small mage.

“What are you doing?” Jimin all but yells as the girl starts to drag Jimin away from the growing crowd of people.

When she realizes that she is running out of time she starts to panic. She wants Jimin gone. Forever. Her original plan was to drag the mage into the woods and leave him there, tying him up with magical rope and hoping he would never be found, leaving Jungkook to come back to her.

She can hear Jungkook’s voice in the distance and she knows that he will be back soon, but it is too soon, she still needs to get rid of Jimin. Panicking, she reaches behind her to try and find some solution to the issue at hand. With her being a hunter as well, the only thing she found in her belt was a small dagger.

In only a few seconds, the girl manages to plunge the sharp blade into Jimin’s chest. She seems to take a moment to realize what happened, but then Jimin collapses in front of everyone.

Jimin lays on the ground, gasping, blood dripping from his mouth. Seeing her work, she feels proud, he will be gone and Jungkook will come crawling back to her and she can finally have the life she wanted since she was a little girl.

Jungkook breaks through the crowd that surrounds his husband and the girl who had basically stalked him since childhood. The first thing he sees is Jimin, collapsed on the ground, a pool of crimson blood surrounding him. Rushing to his husband’s side, Jungkook drops to his knees and gently lays Jimin on his back. When Jungkook saw the handle of the knife in his husband’s chest, he feels the air leave his lungs.

Jungkook looks up at the girl who just attacked his husband, “Why, why would you do this?”

“To get him out of our way! so we can be happy together,” she yells. The hunter just sits there in shock before a raspy gasp leaves Jimin.

“Somebody help,” Jungkook’s desperate voice rings through the air and finally people start to move. Within minutes people are handing him revival crystals and health potions.

Jungkook carefully placed the revival crystal on Jimin’s chest, above his injury. Taking a deep breath, Jungkook slowly grips the handle of the knife, exhaling, he pulls the dagger from Jimin’s chest. He is forced to watch as Jimin weakly coughs, trying desperately to catch his breath as blood seeps from his chest. Jungkook quickly lifts his husband’s head and brings a vile of health potion to his lips. Slowly, Jimin is able to drink the liquid, Jungkook lowers his head back so he can rest.

Jungkook gathers Jimin in his arms and carefully carries the weak body back to their home. Once he makes sure Jimin is resting in bed, Jungkook sits down on the mattress next to his sleeping husband.

Jungkook runs his fingers through Jimin’s soft hair. Opening his husband’s shirt, Jungkook makes sure that the revival crystal had worked and are healing the wound in Jimin’s chest.

After sleeping through the night, the couple wakes up in each other’s arms. Jimin rolls over and sits on the edge of the bed, glancing down to look at the healing scar on his chest.

Before he can get up, he feel strong arms wrap around his waist. He’s pulled back into the pile of covers as Jungkook hugs his husband to his chest.

“My warmth left me,” Jungkook whines, eyes still closed.

“I was gonna get up and make breakfast,” Jimin says, curling up against his warm husband.

“No, stay with me here,” Jungkook whines.

“But we are due in town soon,” Jimin tries to remind the younger.

“We’re not going out on quests for a while, Jiminie,” Jungkook says, sounding more awake now.

Jimin doesn’t even try to fight his husband, just gets closer to him.

“We should take a break from quests for a bit. Give you time to heal. We have enough coins, that’s not a problem.” Jungkook speaks, stroking Jimin’s hair.

Jimin presses his forehead to Jungkook’s chest, smiling at the thought of them being able to relax without worry for a few days, “I like that idea. We can finally relax at home with each other. It can be like the honeymoon we never had.”
