Prologue
Some like to say we’re equal, but you know what, that’s just not the case. They all told me it wasn’t. If so many voices say the same thing, they must be right, right? That’s majority rule for you. Did they think I would listen to the one voice that said otherwise? That’s funny. This whole world is funny. How can someone be serious when there is just so much to laugh at?
The small boy pulled a throwing knife out of the corpse’s skull and wiped it on the dead man’s shirt. Stuffing the knife into some unseen pocket, he threw his head back and laughed. It was not a laugh of joy, but something much more sinister. Something much darker.
What does it mean when someone says something is right or wrong? I kill because I enjoy it. I know what you’re thinking, that’s obviously not an excuse, but don’t heroes enjoy defeating villains? I really don’t see the difference. I guess that’s what makes me such a good actor.
The boy activated a quirk that looked like green lightning, flashing in the night and bounced from wall to wall of the alley until he was standing on a roof. He looked around surveying the city. Such a beautiful city. Soon it would be his.
Really though, did they expect me to just turn tail and run when they all said I wasn’t good enough? They should have known I’m not one to give up easily. I’m sure they blamed the villains for what happened, but I am what they made me, and that is the greatest lie of all. Why would you take the guilt when you can just blame it on someone else? They refuse to be accountable, but I am what they made me. I will show them the consequences of their mistakes. I am what they made me. I am what they made me.
The boy sat down on the edge of the water tower and watched the city burn. He smiled widely, but not a kind smile. Then he laughed. That same sinister laugh that was the signature on all his sins. As flames rose all around him, he reveled in the carnage. Reveled in the destruction. Reveled the in the pain and the realization. He is what they made him. They did this
