Summary
“When I was small,” he said, “I was taught to speak the truth always. My masters taught that truth is wholeness and health, and that to speak a lie is to sow division into the world.” He paused, then went on: “In time I learned that those who taught this themselves lived lives of deceit. And I learned that the truth was not always welcome, when I spoke it.” He released a breath. “There has always been much that is false at Cloud Recesses.”
Wei Wuxian nodded gravely at this, but said nothing. Only sat in silence and waited for him to continue.
“Yet I have also lived among people for many years,” Lan Wangji went on. “I have seen their mistakes. I have made many of my own. I have learned that there is wholeness even in unwelcome truths. There is division even in merciful lies. And —" He looked up at Wei Wuxian with a fierce intensity. "And I think that you and I deserve to live a whole life, Wei Ying. Not one divided into pieces.”
━━━━━━━━━━
An extended exploration of events alluded to in the final episode and beyond: navigating societal queerphobia, working through grief and intimacy, and discovering what it means to truly live their relationship, to find words for themselves and for each other.

Summary
The prince could not help his body trembling as he curled on the floor beside Rogozhin. Yet why should he feel frightened? He should remember, instead, how Christ had offered himself. No unwilling victim, but calm, and powerful. Directing, instructing, giving consent: Take this, and eat.
━━━━━━━━━━
Instead of destroying Nastasya Filippovna, the prince and Rogozhin admit to what they really want. A nightmare, a fever-dream, or an ecstatic vision, inspired by those qualities in the canonical version of the scene.

Summary
“It’s really entirely deserted,” I added. “Even in daylight hours, we didn’t pass a single soul along the way.”
Challenger didn't answer for a moment. He was sizing up the path down, I guessed, although I somehow had the impression that he had not drawn his attention away from me. “Sounds dangerous,” he replied eventually.
“Oh, absolutely,” I agreed. “It’s a funny thing, though, isn't it? After a night like this, I find that one hardly feels afraid of anything.”
I again had the sense that Challenger was looking at me intently, as if I had said something quite strange. But naturally a man like him would grasp my meaning. He was, after all, a sailor; he could be no stranger to the wave of fearlessness, of reckless abandon, that sometimes comes in the wake of a close brush with death.
“Better lead the way, then,” Challenger said, giving a wry grin, and opened the gate to gesture me through.

Shared drinks after fireworks. A brief, inadvisable tryst. Hastings gets his heart broken, and Poirot is there to help him pick up the pieces.

Summary
On nights when he woke drenched in sweat, disoriented, Will recalled only the tone and flavor of his dreams, not the substance. Clinging to him thick, heavy as syrup, and sweet: dreams of transformation, dreams of annihilation, dreams of being unmade.
He did not know what it meant, or what he should do about it. Only that he was by some definition, in some diagnostic criteria, unwell.
But even back then, there was a primal part of him that somehow grasped that those dreams were connected to Dr. Lecter. That sensed, as if by instinct, in the hairs of his arms and the valving of his pulse, that if annihilation was what he dreamt of, then Hannibal was the one who could give it to him.

A brief character study tracing Will’s ambivalent attraction to Hannibal through seasons 1 and 2.

Summary
It began with a slow unwinding. Shedding her armored carapace to expose a fragile shape, held together in whorls of cloth and thread. Peeling away bandages in stages, jaw clenched against the sting of fabric lifting from flesh, raw sinew bared to open air.
She laid her bandages to soak in a basin of water, ointments, herbs, disinfectants. Sponged herself down, scrubbed vigorously around her nails. Applied balm to the empty socket of her eye. Washed and oiled her hair.
A solitary practice, yet nothing within it was hers alone. This was a shared science, built from borrowed materials, sustained on scavenged supplies passed hand to hand; this was the collective wisdom of those she had come to call her kin.

Tutor,
Will the parting ever grow easier, I wonder? Every time I leave you, I dream that I turn around. That I throw myself from my horse with a grace that I possess only in daydreams, never in life. I run back, and when I reach you, your arms are already open to me.

Summary
In the dismal winter, as our Detective Wakefield collected his petty suspicions, my friends knew that our nascent explorations had to proceed delicately. And that, if it was necessary, they might be called to submit their parts to indignity for the sake of our whole. But I am like an eye and Slee is like another eye.
