Summary
“… I never thought about you like that.” Jayce said, his voice quiet, face flushed, looking everywhere but Viktor’s eyes.
The thing was, Viktor hadn’t expected this particular outcome. For him, being rejected by Jayce was almost foreign, alien, a disturbing possibility in one of the most messed up alternative universes they inhabited. Because how could he reject him when Jayce's face illuminates every time Viktor enters a room, when he kisses him on the cheek, on the forehead and cuddles with him when Viktor’s pains would flare up. Why would he pull him into his arms and caress him into his sleep almost every night if he did not feel the same?
But reality proved itself ruthless, for no matter how many outcomes Viktor calculated, analyzed and thought through before his ultimate confession, nothing could beat the cruelty of the words his best friend uttered. The worst part was the kindness of it, how Jayce seemed more ashamed than anything else to have to reject him.
Or: Viktor confesses his feelings for Jayce and he -dumbly- believes he doesn’t feel the same, until reality proves him wrong.

It was with smoke in his lungs and ash falling from the sky that Regulus wondered how deep the roots went.
How long had they been digging their gnarled claws into the world? Into him?
Regulus Black is weak. A Black should not be weak.
He dons his mask and does what he needs to in the name of a new world. He tries to ignore the prisoner in the cellar of Malfoy Manor. He lets himself hope, only on the darkest nights, that Sirius will be the one to kill him. His resolve wavers.
One wrong decision. A life for a life, an unpaid debt. To build a new world, he'll need to tear this one out from the roots.

“Perhaps you should be, too,” Jayce taunts.
“Should be what?” Viktor carefully asks.
“Full,” Jayce drawls out, that playful smirk still dangerously curling his lips as he shifts forward, “of me.”
