After the Taumoeba leak, after I decided to die after all and turned my ship around to save Rocky, after Rocky's frantic calculations about food supplies, Taumoeba multiplication rates, and human caloric intake needs, after we realized that with some rationing and luck I would make it, but that we were headed toward the unknown territory of trying to rapid-prototype me a life support system and synthetic food supply on an inhospitable planet: after all of that, after everything, I shouldn't have been surprised that it only took a few months on board the Hail Mary for things to get weird.

Ryland Grace is, against all odds, alive. He's living a lavish life on Erid with all the me-burgers he can eat and more probing (not like that!) scientists than he could have ever imagined. He's a teacher again, he's got beachfront property, and he's known as Savior Grace to a planet of aliens. Life is good.
Rocky is, against all odds, alive. After over half an century (always Earth units!) away from home, he's more than ecstatic to be back. His star is brightening, his mate waited for him, and all of Erid loves him. Any request he has is almost instantly fulfilled. Life is good.
So why are neither of them happy?

Summary
Three years after the probes carrying Taumoeba and Dr. Ryland Grace's final message arrive on Earth, humanity launches an interstellar spaceship with a brand new mission. Thirty-six crew members (including two graduates of a certain San Franciscan junior high school) travel to the star 40-Eridani to make friendly contact with the Eridians and bring them the alien life form from Tau Ceti-E that can save their star if Dr. Grace's sacrifice failed.
Grace, now fifty-seven years old, is just trying to balance his life as a teacher while no longer being the only human on the planet anymore. It's a big adjustment, but Rocky and the Terra's Grace crew are going to make sure he's well taken care of.

On a long jorney to Erid Grace and Rocky decide to deal with traumatic nature of Eridian's experience in space. They do it with talks, singing, gossiping and dancing.
I just thought there is a lot of works about Rocky helping Grace to deal with heavy emotional stuff, there should be one where Grace supports his friend also!

“Yes… yes I just…” Grace struggled to catch his breath. “This was not how I was expecting tonight to go.”
Simon paused his kisses. “How did you see this going?”
“I don’t know. We would… talk about it?”
“Do you want to talk instead?”
Grace couldn’t even remember what he wanted to say. Actually, there were no words that described what he wanted. “No. No, keep going.”

Or Eridians find Simon's submarine while spreading Astrophage to the galaxy and bring him back to Erid. Grace has to change his normal routine to help this new human adjust to life. Slowly, they get to know one another, despite Simon potentially being a war criminal from a moon with an ocean full of blood. But there's just something else about Simon that Grace can't shake, and he's pretty sure Simon feels it too...- Language:

Grace has been on Erid for about six months. Things have quieted down. Grace isn’t as sick anymore. He’s eating normally, mostly healed, and not actively dying. Rocky doesn’t need to spend every waking moment with him. Rocky can actually resume living a normal life. Grace doesn’t need Rocky, anymore.
Grace has severely underestimated how much he needs Rocky.
Or: What happens when a very codependent Grace tries to separate himself from his best friend, Rocky? Who, by chance, also happens to be very codependent?
Oh, right. And he’s in love with Rocky. And he doesn’t know it yet.
