“Are you sure Yeosang’s friend is cool with a complete stranger moving in?” San asked.
“Oh, for sure! We discussed it with him and he’s more than happy. He’s really outgoing, friendly, loves meeting new people! Plus, you might not actually be strangers come to think of it…” Jongho muttered.
“What do you mean?”
“Apparently, he went to your school. His family moved around a lot, so he was only there for a few months, and I know your school was rather big, so you might not have even crossed paths all that much. He didn’t seem to have any recollection of you when I mentioned it. But you’re the same age, so he would have been in your year!” Jongho explained.
“Well, what’s his name?” San asked, genuinely curious about whether or not he’d remember him.
“Jung Wooyoung” Jongho replied.
San's blood ran cold.
Jung Wooyoung, the sweet, cheerful, sensitive boy who had joined his school back when he was fifteen. The boy with no friends, the boy who was an easy target. The boy who was spat on, kicked, punched, slapped, and called every disgusting name under the sun. Wooyoung had been tormented non-stop in the few months he had attended that school, and San had been the reason why.

“Cap’s a beaut, isn’t he?” Yeosang chimed in, making it clear he’d caught the way that Wooyoung’s gaze had gotten stuck on one particular player.
“...Your team captain is Choi San?” Wooyoung asked, barely able to hear his own voice as his heartbeat drowned out every other sound.
“Our team captain is Choi San.”
Well, shit.
As teenagers, whether as teammates or best friends, Wooyoung and San had been inseparable. Which was why, when the lines of their relationship finally bled until they blurred together while traveling for a championship weekend and their euphoria gave out immediately to complete disaster, Wooyoung is left heartbroken, confused, and ashamed.
Now, having spent a few years struggling to get scouted to a collegiate team, Wooyoung is finally feeling some peace when he’s confirmed for one of his top schools. Peace that is completely shattered on the first day of training when the star center and team captain is none other than his own estranged ex-best friend. San is over eager to reconnect but Wooyoung is more than cautious knowing his heart and his future are on the line if whatever he once felt for San affects the team or if the truth about their past makes it out.

Summary
Wooyoung's eyes stung as they shuttered open. A hot white light filtered in first, burning his pupils.
Was this heaven? Was it supposed to hurt this badly? He took a moment to assess his condition: limbs in tact, definitely not dead, and holy shit—who the hell was that guy with his hand pressed to his chest?
“No need to thank me,” the man grumbled. His voice was deep and gritty, laced with what Wooyoung immediately recognized as a heavy dose of annoyance. “Don’t look for me after this, got it? I was never here.”
(Alternatively: After waking up from a fatal fall, Wooyoung develops the strange ability to freeze time and the inability to die, and a mysterious man might have something to do with it)
