The realization hits Ilya like a punch to the solar plexus.
“They’re trading Shane fucking Hollander?” Reilly questions with utter disbelief. It takes a half second more before he follows the question with another. “We’re signing him?”

Cliff gapes at him.In which the hit that Cliff Marleau had on Shane Hollander goes a little different. For one, they’re in Boston. For another, Ilya realizes he might be panicking? Which is probably not something to do in the middle of a game. And, oh yeah, he just outed both himself and his not-boyfriend to an entire locker room of hockey players.
But that’s okay, because while Boston may be vicious, they do take care of their own. And they quickly realize that their captain’s happiness and willingness to stay with the Bears is tied to Shane Hollander. The solution is easy, they’ll just have to make Shane Hollander a Bear.

Summary
Shane nodded silently, getting the gist that Ilya’s phone was dead and couldn’t contact any of his teammates. Ok. So really there were only two things he could do here, Shane concluded. Both probably equally as stupid in their own ways.
Either A) he could walk away, act like the rivals he and Rozanov were supposed to be. Not make whatever was going on with him his problem and move on. Or B) he takes Ilya back to him and Hayden’s hotel room and looks after him for the night until he’s sober enough to go back to his own hotel and teammates.
Shane liked the second option more.
OR
Shane finds a drunk Ilya at the bar and takes him back to his hotel room to make sure he's okay. Also Hayden is there.

The realization arrives slowly and then all at once. "You kidnapped an NHL player because of gambling?"

The man shrugs. "Not with the amount of money involved."

Ilya is kidnapped after the All-Stars game to rig a bet in the hopes of making the Bears lose without him, and Ilya has to try his hardest to survive. Meanwhile, back in Florida, Shane is giving one too many fucks about the man that definitely is not his boyfriend and is having a hard time hiding his stress from the people around him.Bookmarked by wolfsbanex
