An almost imperceptible noise, like the smallest leaf falling onto a grassy soil, disturbed the peace of Shen’s bath time. The slow clatter of the water and the buzz of nature all around him were familiar and expected, but this particular sound stood out somehow. He slowly opened his eyes to confirm his intuition and tensed immediately. Zed was here.

It had been a truly interesting experience to witness Jeremy morph into this civil, relaxed self, into the safety of his native city, his neighborhood, his home. Mick knew the RED Scout, always tense and on his guard with others, always over the top with his banter, never letting himself appear vulnerable. He was of course acquainted with the more tender and genuine side of him that was only for when they were just with one another. He loved all those parts. But it was something else to see Jeremy, back in the role of a son, of a little brother, fitting in the picture like he never left and never changed.

He pondered whether or not he should give in, one more time. Maybe, he did not hear quite right what Scout had said. Maybe it was all a dream and he could hide behind that gray area again and deal with the consequences later. His future self would handle it, surely.
“Mick...” his name had always sounded surreal in Scout’s voice, “Kiss me again?” Sniper heard him plea just before surrendering to it.

Summary
They do not see each other for two years. Shen thinks about him almost every day. He hears about what Zed has been doing with his Yánléi, but he does not see him, and he does not forgive him either. It’s not that his pain has weakened, Shen has just grown strong enough to continue in spite of it. This is—in some way—balance.
Yánléi is a word that means tears.
OR
Shen has always hidden the name on his hip. Soulmates are sacred in Ionia, so the name is not to be talked about. He doesn't realize who it belongs to until it's late.
