Summary
The first thing Joel notices about Tommy when he sees him in the holding cell is that he’s got a black eye and a busted lip. His brother has always been good ‘bout starting fights, not as good at finishing ‘em.
The second thing Joel notices is that Tommy’s sitting next to a scrawny girl, at some age around thirteen or so. The kid’s sporting a matching black eye, dried blood crusting around her nose, and a fresh cut through her eyebrow.
The kid turns to Tommy, and simply says: “Dude.”
OR - Joel picks Tommy and Ellie up from lockup. He keeps running into Ellie.

Summary
FEDRA officers are never careful with kids, and Ellie could feel the bruises in her biceps forming from their grip on her as she stumbled down the stairs. It’s fucking embarrassing, and terrifying. She knows three things right now:
First, Ellie knows that she’s never going to get a chance to try and convince them of her innocence. Even if FEDRA did hear people out, they certainly wouldn’t for her, given her track record. Second, the punishment for being caught with stolen rations and weapons is three days in The Hole. And third, the door isn’t fucking opening until those three days are up.

Summary
What isn’t a repetition, what definitely isn’t consistent, is a small hand waving in front of his face. Taken aback, his face scrunches, and he stops walking. He stands there for another second just staring. There’s a little girl, probably thirteen or so, with her messy hair pulled back into a ponytail and wearing a ratty sweatshirt that’s much too big for her. First, he thinks that she must be cold. Then, he realizes that she’s talking to him.
“–was wondering where you’ve been. Are you even listening to me? Are you high? Fuck,” she just keeps talking, rambling and jumping to conclusion after conclusion. He raises an eyebrow at her – he ain’t particularly interested in buying any girl scout cookies or the like. Joel opens his mouth to speak, but she cuts him off quickly with a hissed whisper. “Just pretend like you fucking know me, asshole.”
“Excuse me?” Joel shoots back.
OR:
Ellie approaches Joel on his way home from work looking for some help. They start walking together for a bit every night. As all per always - things go awrySeries
