Summary
Light is the victim of a brutal assault and finds himself spiralling into a state of despair as he grapples with the violation of his autonomy, pride, and God-complex. To cope with this Light does what he does best and manipulates the rules of the Death Note, using them to put him out of his misery whilst maintaining his innocence for the sake of his family, and of course, to claim victory over L.

Soichiro tries again when Light doesn’t answer. “Something will have to be done with the body regardless, son.”
Light’s mouth forms the word “grave” without his permission. And then it pours out of him, “a burial, he wanted a burial. Here. In Japan. And an open casket. And—” he’d choked here, in front of his father, “an autopsy. To see if Kira left anything inside.” When he excuses himself to vomit, nothing comes up.

Summary
There’s something missing from Light Yagami’s skull. There’s something missing and he can’t put his finger on what it is. Memories seem vague, motives are aimless, people he’s met had occurred under blurry circumstances, and something is simply missing entirely. In its place is something which obstructs his sleep and mocks the missingness of his brain. He’ll find what had left. He just has to look hard enough.
TL;DR: The handcuffs/Yotsuba arc but Light has nightmares. Also I harp on the concept of memories a lot. Plus there’s some experimental symbolism and repetition. This is incredibly plot compliant and strictly follows the manga timeline.
