After being kidnapped and held for ransom by one of the city's younger and more reckless thieves guilds, Azune is injured and traumatized to the point where his friends can't rescue him without hurting him worse. Letting Bolaire put him on/putting on the mask lets Hal, Bolaire, and Murray get him out of there, but taking him off again will be a lengthier, and gentler, process.

Mydei huffs and reaches up to smooth his hair out, fingers scraping along the base of black horns to watch Phainon's eyes close of their own accord. A soft exhale, head tilting into Mydei's palm.
So easy.
He tugs on a strand of white hair, and Phainon doesn't even react. He trails his hand lower, hooks one finger into the choker resting snug against Phainon's neck. Yanks on it to have Phainon lean closer, eyes snapping open.
Without having to look, Mydei's fingers easily find and press against the burning skin where the sun mark rests. Its outline used to be a vibrant gold, now faded into a silvery white.
"You are losing your gold, Khaslana."

He’s expecting Professor Von Karma to hit the roof, but he takes it surprisingly well.
“My daughter has a talent,” he says indulgently chucking the girl under the chin as she preens. “Though it is an unfortunate malady. You know what must be done.”
And so Phoenix stops losing. At anything.
