“They equipped you with gentlemanly programming? Not a stone left unturned.”
He blinked. He may have batted his lashes. “My social relations programming is thorough,” he said, “I can anticipate the desires of those around me without having to be told.”
“You anticipate that I desire a gentleman?” The elevator cables whirred from behind the doors.
“You’ve just told me what you want,” he said, standing with his hands folded behind his back. A dinging bell, and the lagging elevator doors opened. “I just anticipated it before you could.”

    Summary

Connor's mildly impatient, has been since he arrived asking for your assistance. Agitation rolls from him in waves.

"Thirium distribution has been irregular," he recounts, an edge of frustration. "The entire rhythm is off, and it's causing decreases in energy efficiency—"

He freezes for several heartbeats. He's done this a couple times since arriving, too.

"—and-lag-in-my-output." Connor's voice speeds without pitching up when he moves again. He seems to catch the error and grits his teeth.

"I already know what's wrong," he says. He'd be pacing if you hadn't instructed him to stay seated. You let him vent, eyes tracking him.

"Right, your regulator's screwy," you agree. You turn in your chair to your computer. "I'll still need to figure out what the specific problem is. Your model doesn't exactly have spare parts mass produced everywhere, so I'll just have to repair what you have."

    Summary

Connor is struggling with this case as the witness doesn't want to speak, a deviant android is missing and a dead man is left in a rain-soaked alley.

Madeline Graves has a pretty good idea of what happens to a deviant android who murdered a human and she's not about to help the police find him.

Connor doesn’t need her confession to build a timeline. He has footage, data, patterns. What he doesn’t have is an explanation for the way she protects an android like a person, and destroys herself for the sake of it.

Detroit is cruel for the ones that are not meant to be, somehow both of them need to find their way to become someone.

In which Madeline is an awkward bartender with a missing deviant android, and ends up working with the Detroit Police as an informant from behind Basil Noir’s counter, reluctantly helping Connor navigate his very questionable “social protocol.”

    Summary

“What kind of consultant are you, Parker?” Connor asked suddenly, swiftly changing the topic. He wanted to ask her ever since she mentioned Quantico. “Your area of expertise, as you mentioned?”

So far, Parker was engrossed with the conversation, with looking at him. Now, she was looking at the houses they passed by. She seemed to be somewhere far away, not in the vehicle, let alone being a part of the conversation. He finally had a chance to ask that question, but she was no longer listening, she was no longer looking. Just as quickly as he found himself in the centre of her attention, he suddenly no longer was.

“Parker?” He asked, leaning forward to catch her eyes from behind the seats.

“Hm?” Slowly, she tore her eyes away from the flashing lights and finally looked at him. “Oh!” She smiled, tiredly and sweetly, and finally answered. “Androids.”
