“I’m curious,” Orlant says, “how you expect to help his highness with this mission.”
Laurent sits up straighter. “Auguste is awful at lying. And he’s even worse when under pressure. I, on the other hand, am excellent at lying in all circumstances. Therefore, I am here to accompany Auguste. We can say I’m his companion or assistant and I can do the talking.”
Orlant is grinning by the end of this, and says, “That’s a noble idea, my Prince, but I think you’re missing something. Most of those assistants are really pets.”
Laurent pauses. “Oh.” He seems to think for a moment. “Well, that doesn’t really alter my plan at all. I’ll pretend to be his pet then.” He turns to Auguste. “This will be just like when we used to play pretend.”
This will be nothing like when they used to play pretend, Auguste thinks.

"Let us enjoy ourselves,” Laurent said. His fingers slowly unbuttoned Damen’s cloak, and it soon dropped to the floor behind them. “It’s rare that we do not have the palace staff knocking at our doors.” Laurent’s hands were dancing, across his chest, teasing at the laces, and traversing down to the waistband of his trousers.
Damen grabbed his hands. “I think you like it when they knock at our doors.”
Laurent brought Damen’s hands to his own collar, and Damen began to unlace the ties at his neck. As he spoke, he could feel his throat brush against Damen’s fingers. Feeling playful, he teased, “I prefer it when they don’t knock.”-
An adventure in the Northern Steppes.

Summary
It's the well known fairy tale with the lovely princess trapped in the lair by the evil dragon, and the brave knights who risk their lives to save her on the behest of her beloved prince.
Except the dragon isn't quite so evil as it's cursed, the lovely princess is a bit tattered and actually a prince (well, engaged to a prince he's having none of) and a runaway, and not too bad at looking after himself. The lair is a rundown castle, most of the knights aren't that brave (there's a few exceptions), and the beloved prince is is anything but beloved.
In other words, Neil and Andrew and a few other Foxes in a magical world, dealing with magic and a stubborn curse.
