Summary
"Andrew’s arm slides around Neil’s waist, slow enough that Neil could stop him if he wanted to. He doesn’t. He lets Andrew pull him in against his chest, one arm tight around him, solid and unyielding. Protective, though against what, Neil isn’t sure.
The heat of Andrew’s body sinks into him almost immediately, thawing some of the chill lodged deep in his bones. Neil hadn’t realized just how cold he was until now. He curls closer without thinking about it.
Andrew’s hand spreads flat against his side, slipping under his shirt carefully. “You’re freezing,” he mutters after a minute.
“It’s just cold in here.” Neil closes his eyes and adds, “But you’re warm.”
Andrew makes a quiet, irritated sound at that, but he doesn’t let go. Neil lets himself sink into the warmth instead of thinking about the blood or the pain or the way his body feels increasingly foreign to him. He focuses on Andrew’s heartbeat beneath his cheek. The steady rise and fall of his breathing. Eventually, Andrew’s grip tightens almost imperceptibly around him, like he’s afraid Neil might disappear if he loosens it too much."

Neil isn't feeling well, but he's fine. Totally fine. Nothing to worry about here!

Summary
"You didn't run," Neil murmured, almost to himself.
Katelyn looked at him. Her eyes were wet, fear finally leaking through the cracks in her composure. "You stepped in front of a knife."
"I had to."
"You didn't have to," she said. Her voice broke. "You really didn't."
"He was aiming for you."
"I know." She wiped her face with her free hand, smearing a streak of blood across her cheek. "I know, Neil."
Neil Josten has always treated Katelyn like background noise. She's a liability attached to Aaron Minyard that needs to be managed. But when a ghost from Baltimore interrupts his morning run, Neil realizes that his calculations were wrong.
Or: The one where Neil gets stabbed (again), Katelyn proves she’s more than just a cheerleader, and the Foxhole gets slightly bigger.

Summary
Neil Josten wasn’t a hero. He was brash, and rude. He didn’t care about most people. He didn’t take shit, but he gave it in abundance. His smart mouth was a weapon that he wielded like Andrew wielded his knives. So no he wasn’t a hero let alone a good person. He simply had lines that could not and would not be crossed. If that line so happened to be a circle enclosing the foxes, then that wasn’t anyone else’s business. Andrew called it a martyr complex, but that wasn’t quite right. It was territorial. The fierce need to protect could never be a concept that centered around himself, it was about them. It was always going to be them.

Summary
The world narrowed until it felt like tunnel vision. All he registered was the rhythm and slap of his shoes hitting the ground, the sound of his own breath, the sting of air against his throat. His chest ached, his ribs burned with every inhale, but he didn’t stop. He pushed harder, like he was trying to outrun his own skin, his own thoughts, the oppressive weight of expectation and loneliness and inability to control what’s coming next that claws at him as soon as the sun goes down and it’s time to sleep.
He ran until he stopped feeling anything at all.
Or
It's Neil's 5th year, and he's struggling with missing the Foxes, especially Andrew.
