Regulus draws the fabric tighter around his shoulders. “There is no need. I am fine.”
Oh, and James knows that tone all too well. Sirius shares this mulish stubbornness. He knows he could argue himself bluer than Regulus’s lips and not win this argument, so he does not bother to try.
James crosses the small space to where the prince is curled against the cave wall and drops down beside him.
“What do you think you are doing?” Regulus demands in a squeak that’s not very princely.
“Saving your life.”

Summary
Regulus manages his dysphoria.
He has rules and coping mechanisms and a support system. His hair is perennially short; he has a collection of sports-safe binders; he hasn’t worn a skirt since the federation changed the rules for figure skating attire; he strains his voice to lower its pitch; all his loved ones call him by his true name; and he’s attended a shit-ton of therapy sessions. Most of all, he clings to the ephemerality of it.
It works.
Usually.
Not today.
Or
Regulus and James are skating partners at their first Olympics. It would be perfect — if only the rest of the world knew Regulus’s name.

Summary
In Regulus’s defense, he doesn’t mean to turn James Potter into a vampire.
His plans are much simpler than that. He only intends to abduct the boy who has led his brother astray, have some fun torturing him for a week or two, kill him, then dump the body on Sirius’s doorstep. Maybe carve ‘from RAB, with love’ on his chest for dramatic effect.
See? A nice, straightforward plan.

Pandora grins a little crookedly as she twirls to face forward again. Her scarf — a pale blue that matches her eyes exactly — is wrapped three times around her neck, the ends trailing down her shoulders along with soft, soft blonde curls.
“I don’t mind falling,” she says. “It always gives me a new perspective.”
Lily doesn’t trust herself to respond, not when her entire brain is occupied with the fact that she wants, desperately, to kiss this girl in the snow-dusted street.
