Her breath hitched slightly as she realized that he knew.
“I—Malfoy, what are you doing? Don’t you have a date somewhere?”
Was he making fun of her?
He never came anywhere alone. He always had someone, some gorgeous glamorous witch on his arm, most of the time.
“Labra floris,” he muttered, then let out a strangled, dark laugh. “Pansy said she could get you to do it, but I never believed you actually would.”
Hermione huffed to retort, to explain, to defend, but he cut her off.
“Do you have any idea what that does to me?” he croaked and she startled a bit. Not only did he sound sincere, he sounded…unhinged. A bit deranged, even.
“As if I haven’t imagined it a million times.” He raked a hand through his hair, leaving it messy in a very comely way. “That colour is…fuck.”
A sudden thrill overtook her as she understood.
She tilted her head, blinking as innocently as she could. “It’s just lipstick, Malfoy.”
