"Please pick up. Please pick up." Zelda's short breaths were dangerously close to falling into sobs. She stared at the sidewalk, distracting herself with the lines and cracks as she walked.
Voicemail.
The blonde girl's stomach sank.
"No. No. No." He always picks up, always. Unless he's at work or in the middle of a soccer/football game... or he's sleeping.
Zelda shook her head. "It's okay. It's okay. Just call... Urbosa."
Voicemail.
"Mipha."
Voicemail.
"Aunt Sonia."
Voicemail.
"Revail? No, he wouldn't be great for this... and Daruk is on a cruise. Yona and Sidon are on their honeymoon."
Zelda scrolled through her limited contacts, finding no one. She let her screen turn black. She was alone, she couldn't talk to anyone, and she didn't feel safe. Link was her safe space.

Zelda gets in a fight with her father and gets caught in the rain. Link makes her feel better afterwards!

In her defense, Okkotsu hadn't forgotten to tell everyone that she was transitioning.
Anyone who mattered knew. Maki, Panda, Toge. The three of them had actually helped her pick out her name— Toge was the one who pitched Yuna, which had instantly felt like the right choice. Todo knew because he kept calling to complain that she was missing the exchange event, and she'd explained that she wasn't ready to come out to both schools yet.
(His immediate reaction, after a much-too-hard slap on the back, was to ask her what her type in men was. Yuna was still trying to figure out if that was Todo's version of being inclusive.)
A study of an AU where Yuta is transfem, and she started transitioning while she was in Africa. This doesn't change much, but it certainly pushes her closer to Maki.

Hanahaki Disease: an incredibly uncommon manifestation of negative cursed energy pertaining to a deeply intense love that appears physically as flora blooming within a sorcerer. The cure is unknown, and as it is so rare most sorcerers aren’t even knowledgeable of its existence.
“Don’t tell anyone,” Yuta whispers to Toge, deeply blushing. “I like…Maki.”
Something in his stomach drops. He tells himself that that feeling must have been excitement–his two best friends would probably end up together after all. Yuta was strong, kindhearted, compassionate, and so, so much more. Of course Maki would like him back, and she was wonderful too.
Oh. He cleared his throat. “Shake.” I see.
Toge was happy for his friends, he must have been.
He figured so up until three days later–because that’s how long it took him to notice, since he seldom used his voice. Up until he was talking to Ieiri, and noticed something getting caught in his throat, something tasting oddly of a faint bitterness. A petal.
