There was no good way to broach this. “You… you know things, don’t you.”
Seam peered at him curiously. The three-holed button that was their right eye spun slowly in the socket. “A funny thing to ask. I’ve been around a fair while, I won’t deny it. But, I suspect there’s something in particular you’re curious about… ?”
Subtlety would do Ralsei no good here; he was up against a master in the art. “You understand the rules of this world. When the Knight drove that jester mad, Jevil, he told you things. Showed you them, maybe.” He clenched his eyes shut. It hurt to say the words aloud—the very thing he trained himself most strictly to avoid. “You know about the prophecy, and what it means. How it ends.”
Pacifism isn't working. The prophecy is still on track, and Ralsei is running out of time and options. The Knight has appeared far too soon, and whatever hopes he had are fading. Looking for a way—any way—to change their fate, he seeks answers from the one person in Castle Town who might understand.
