Summary
Rozanov's so… professional. He's all grown up and not at all like the boy he once was. The polite smile never leaves his face even when he's looking at Shane.
"You are very lucky," Rozanov tells him, "That your concussion is only mild. Seeing me is a not so good thing, okay?"
Shane sighs through his nose, pouts. "Yeah… okay. But… I haven't seen you in a million years. Why are you a doctor now? You should be playing hockey—" He wiggles a little, grins sideways— "With me."

Summary
Shane is tempted to blame Hayden. Hayden had mentioned Boston Lily, poking and prodding Shane for details. Shane had done his best impression of an oyster. To keep his mouth shut and deny that secret hope that the grain of sand stuck on the roof of his oyster-mouth that is his and Rozanov’s situationship might turn into a pearl. A relationship. Fuck.
Shane, tired of Hayden’s questions, agreed to head out to the bar with the team. Mistake two. As it turned out, Hayden hadn’t given up. He’d waited until Shane’s anxiety about fitting in found him nursing a beer. It went to his head like bubbles in a fresh popped bottle of champagne. A bottle of champagne that Shane shook too hard, annoyed by the endless questions, and, well, the cork blew. However, instead of a cork, “I’m gay” shot out of Shane’s mouth. It changed everything as much as he feared it would.
or: Shane gets traded Boston by way of Florida.

Summary
Shane wished he could see the sun rise with Ilya, not just watch it set. Shane wanted to walk in the light with Ilya by his side, hand in hand, but a reality where they could be friends publicly felt light years away, one where they would be accepted as lovers and respected as hockey players simultaneously felt even further. Shane couldn’t lose everything he had worked so hard to cultivate, the brand he had built in spite of everything working against him.
The secrecy killed him because loving Ilya felt so right, but he knew it was wrong. Shane wouldn’t mind being in love with Ilya if it didn’t mean being in love with a boy.
