It’s not Eddie’s fault that, at that exact moment, Buck walks in. So it’s not his fault that he opens his mouth and says, “Buck.”

"Perfect," Eddie manages around a tongue that he's certain is three times as big as it usually is.
"Great, I'll pick you up. Send me your address?" Ian smiles again, and Eddie thinks he might have a heart attack. He has no idea what he says in response, but it must be adequate, because Ian gives him a little wave and says he'll see Eddie on Sunday, and as soon as he disappears from sight, Eddie slumps back against one of the open ambulance doors, stunned.
"Huh. So that's why he's not dating May," comes Ravi's voice from behind him, and Eddie does not yelp. He doesn't.

Summary
Eddie runs. He’s already hoarse from shouting Buck’s name into the wind for what feels like hours and he runs anyway. Breath scraping down his throat, muscles grinding in protest. The New Mexico desert hits hard under his knees, jarring Eddie’s bones as he reaches for Buck. It hurts and he doesn’t care.
Buck is pale under the layers of blood and grime, and for a terrible, heart-stopping, awful moment it looks like he isn’t breathing.
Eddie is going to throw up.
