I saw her dance, with that mix of control and freedom that made her unique. As if the whole world were at her feet, and yet, she was looking at me. Only me.
An entire song slipped by as I watched her move, admiring how she let the music take over her, how she smiled when the bass rumbled through the floor.
At one point, as the next track started playing, she got even closer.
- If you keep looking at me like that, I’ll start to think you really like me, Vi, - she said with that damn voice of hers, right next to my ear.
And then she bit her lip.
Damn it.

Vi holds the book up, “Since you don’t like this one, you, uh, got any recommendations for books you like more?”
Her seat neighbor’s smile returns then, her eyes brightening. “Yes, I, uh,” she pauses and bites her lip, her smile still breaking through as her blush deepens. She looks down at the space between their seats as she begins to speak, “I’ll give them to you in exchange for your number.”
The eye contact returns then and Vi feels her face grow red and hot again, it’s probably getting close to the shade of her own hair, but she’s smiling nonetheless. “You got anything to write on?”

Caitlyn and Vi are recent college grads living in New York City in the late nineties, they meet by chance and quickly become enamored with each other. But as their relationship develops, cracks begin to show: neither of them are out to their families and they're both struggling with their identities and their hope that they will get the future that they always dreamed of. When these cracks begin to force them apart, they must face the reality that they may never get everything they wanted. And the question of whether their love is worth the sacrifice.

Dancers with too much ego, a strained ex-marriage gluing the place together, and revenue that seems to disappear into thin air; the club is on the brink of financial ruin. One night, a navy-haired, runaway ballerina witnesses the show from the back of the room, and yearns for the burlesque stage. Caitlyn resolves to hire herself as a waitress, and refuses to take no for an answer. Vi finds her frustration toward the stubborn dancer molds into something far hotter, despite her best efforts.

“You’re playing with other people, right?” Mira asks, coming to a stop right in front of her, and Zoey knows that look, the determined heat simmering in dark brown eyes, the sharp curl of pretty lips up at the corner.
Zoey knows that look, and so she squeaks, “Yes,” and tries not to come in her pants as Mira sinks slowly, smoothly, to her knees.
