Shulk had been able to see the future long before he set out with the Monado. It’s probably a side-effect of the ancient God that doesn’t shut up and lives rent free in his head. It’s been there ever since he was twelve.
Shulk learned to live with it, an unseen companion offering advice, mostly criticism, and a running commentary on things that are frankly, none of it’s business.
The future visions are harder to ignore. After all, watching the repeated deaths of his friends and family would traumatise anyone. Instead, Shulk uses them to rewrite fate and save the people he loves.

Summary
In spite of all odds, fierce preventative measures and his rapidly declining courage, Shuuichi enters the honours programme at his university, for being a good detective- in order become a great detective.
This would be fine, more than fine really- a dream come true for many, if Shuuichi's confidence hadn't been shot in the head behind a dumpster somewhere when he was a kid and had never really recovered since. Hopefully the other 15 people in his scholarship class can help him feel a bit more comfortable. Though- Shuuichi had never been one to hope.

Summary
Vanitas and Ventus met each other in their first year of school, where Ventus walked all over Vanitas' perfectly laid lego trap of death and destruction and cried in the corner for ten minutes. Somehow from that they became best friends, and even as they grew up and their personalities clashed like darkness to light- it remained that way for years.
Yet growing up under stressful conditions doesn't always yield the greatest results. Especially when you're Vanitas, because everything just hates him apparently and the world is constantly out to get him. All he wants to do is protect his best friend, and sometimes he can't even do that.
Or alternatively: Vanitas and Ventus grow up together and go through some shit.
