Fuck. He was supposed to block that out. He’d been so good. He’d denied that voice so many times, pushing it to the back of his mind. He wasn’t supposed to let it force itself through the walls he’d put up. But once it started, it didn’t stop.
Shane thought about Rozanov.
Thought about the way he pinned him down into the mattress, or the couch, or the kitchen island, or the fucking floor. How he would refuse to touch Shane’s leaking dick, demanding that he come untouched. The way that he would purr into Shane’s ear, mocking his eagerness, making Shane whine in an embarrassing mix of shame and unadulterated want.
He thought about the first time they fucked, he thought about Vegas, he thought about Boston.
Ilya.
Fuck it, he thought about Ilya.

What if Shane never sat across from Rose Landry, but instead landed himself a boyfriend? And what if Ilya couldn’t just be normal about it.

Rose just scoffs silently and shakes her head. “Forget it, Shane. That’s Ilya Rozanov.” At Shane’s raised eyebrows and another, slightly stronger, shove with his elbow, Rose begrudgingly elaborates. “He’s the captain of the hockey team, pretty well-known on campus. And the one thing everyone knows is that the moment you want him, you've already lost.”
Shane frowns, leaning in a bit closer to his friend. “What does that even mean? Is he taken?” he questions, annoyed but still curious.
“Nah, he’s a weirdo,” Rose giggles, stifling the sounds behind her hand when a shush sounds from behind them. “Rozanov loves the chase. He’s got a thing for people who don’t want him, but the moment they show interest back and let him hit he gets bored and moves on. I swear he has some issues he needs to go to therapy for, ‘cause that’s just not normal.”

Summary
The question isn’t what Ilya would do to protect that love, but instead what wouldn’t Ilya do to protect that love? Ilya would do bad, bad things for Shane Hollander, in many different regards. Ilya would also undoubtedly wither away and out of existence, if he ever did something that ended up scaring Shane away from him permanently.
All of these questions are pointless. There’s only one, actual question that needs to be asked: is it better to speak or to die?
Ilya would argue in favor of death, every time.
Three months after the incident and nothing has changed. Ilya is charged with taking care of Shane after his wisdom teeth are taken out. It goes about as well as you’d expect.
