In the same sweep of a movement, Magnus’ body was pressed up against the lockers and his hand pinned beside his head. Alec’s two fingers rested inside the open palm, while the rest had a loose grip around the wrist.
It would be easy for Magnus to wiggle away from the pressure of Alec’s body, but the sudden pounding of his heart had him momentarily startled.

Summary
Angels aren’t individuals in the way humans are, or even the way demons are. Independence is a human characteristic. Rebellion is a demonic characteristic. Obedience to their hierarchy is an angelic characteristic.
Magnus Bane had spent hundreds of years coming to terms with what it meant for him that his father was a demon, and a few short years coming to terms with being in love with a shadowhunter. When the Clave falls, he is confronted over the course of hours, days, weeks, with what it means that shadowhunters, that nephilim, are descended from angels.
