Summer comes suffocating to the bustling Tokyo streets, baking shadows into the low roads of Akabane and sending heat-haze glimmering around the ankles of Asakusa crowds. Away from the too-strong beat of the sun overhead, conspiracy swirls through the night, left wandering lonely after the last train to homes not your own, vanishing soft with the break of day anew. Fireworks sear through the night, bursting bright before burning out. Rain pours warm and thick over a sea of umbrellas, swelling in the rivers gone out to the sea. The cicadas sing. The festival lights dance.
It's summer in Tokyo, sweltering and humid enough to drown you, should you hold it in your lungs too long.
