August, 1990.
Mike Wheeler has a routine.
Wake up late. Throw on a ratty band tee. Clock in at Melvald’s General Store. Drown out the monotony with music. Clock out. Go home to his parents arguing. Repeat. He’s done this every day for the last year and a half. He plans to do it every day for the rest of his life.
Until everything falls apart.
He’s fired from his job, kicked out of his house, and left with nowhere to go. His friends’ couches and takeout meals can only last so long. That’s when Dustin mentions it: Will Byers needs a roommate.
Mike hasn’t spoken to Will since last summer.
He shows up on his apartment doorstep anyway.

Richie laughs. It’s a little hysterical. “Ah, it was 1989 and he did the mashed potatoes on a homophobic clown and I was a goner,” he says, entirely too truthful.

Summary
Jefferson Davis can’t lie to himself, as much as he tries. He and Miles have always butted heads-- his son just has this carefree, unfettered approach to life that Davis' strict, no-nonsense methods seemingly have no place in. A large part of him loves Miles for that, truly, even though sometimes Jefferson feels as if he's just slowing him down.
But now, with Miles away at school on weeknights-- seemingly always busy with something or another-- Jefferson has never felt that gaping space between himself and his son yawn wider.Enter the new Spider-Man. A free-spirited kid, five foot nothing and standing between the whole city and danger as if it’s his job, breaking a long series of minor laws with careless ease, and giving a certain cop heart palpitations on a regular basis.

“You’ve been quiet. Are you jealous?”
Reki lurches up. “Jealous of what?”
Miya’s brow angles impossibly higher. “Of all the attention the prince is getting?”
Right, of course. That’s what anyone would be jealous over. “I just don’t believe it. Prince Langa isn’t…” he waves one hand, frowning, “...like that.”
“Ha,” Miya crows. “Like you’d know.”
But he does. And Reki thinks: I could do it. I could make him smile. I’ve done it before.

“Did you know penguins mate for life?” Langa blurts out. “And during courtship, males present females with the smoothest pebble they can find. Because they build their nest out of rocks.”
For a moment, there’s no response, just the wind in Langa’s ears and Reki blinking at him, and Langa seriously considers throwing himself over the ship. And then Reki breaks out into a huge grin, all teeth, and Langa breathes a sigh of relief.
“Awww, really?” Reki asks brightly, his hair flopping in his face. He pushes it back with a bandaged hand. “That’s so cute. Hey, wait a second, why do penguins have a better love life than me?”
