“Now look who decided to crawl back home.” Chuuya can't help the smile spreading on his lips, glad to find his ex-partner winding down alone. “I thought you'd sworn to never set foot in here again, Dazai?”
The bastard looks tired, the make-up smudged on his cheek - it seems Akutagawa got to him - and his eyes widen just a bit, as he turns to look at Chuuya. The tiny “oh, crap” that escapes him is a balm on Chuuya's weary soul.
“Chuuya!” He smooths out his expression effortlessly fast. “Didn't see you earlier - guess I should have brought a magnifying glass.”
After five years of silence - no apology, no explanation - Dazai is back: on stage, and in his ex-partners life.
Can they make it through the release of a new album without incident?(Spoiler alert: no, of course not.)

Summary
The government has Chuuya.
The government is holding Chuuya captive, underground, away from the sunlight he deserves.
A fury that he's buried - not forgotten, never forgiven, just watching, waiting for the storm to come - roars back to life from beneath its icy grave.
The events of Storm Bringer are implied to still happen in the BEAST timeline. So, when Verlaine learns that Chuuya has been captured by the government after his rampage, he goes to do what he always does: try to save his little brother, by whatever means necessary.

He can't tell how the date is going, because Shuuichi leaves the scarf at the restaurant's coat check. Still, Rei muses as he sips at his Christmas chai - the least terrible of the holiday options in the café across the street - it can't be going too horribly. They weren't thrown out yet, after all, unlike with that last woman.
In an attempt to move on, Shuuichi tries dating. It goes about as well as one would expect, but at least Rei is by his side.
