Summary
Buck can’t look away. It's a sick joke, how unnatural, how horrible the sight is, but he can’t bring himself to look away. He thinks he pushes Harry out of the way, needing a better view. Shoves Ravi aside to stand in the front row. A barricade spot for death.
Buck almost laughs at the sight. He feels it bubbling up his throat, threatening to explode out of him. He wants to laugh in some weird, delirious relief because that can’t be Eddie. Not his Eddie. This is… whoever this is, is not Eddie. Eddie is full of life. Eddie is warmth and sunlight and tanned skin. Eddie is flushed cheeks, a small blush working its way across his face at any compliment. Eddie is sparkling, shining eyes, crinkling around the corners, watching Buck inevitably make a fool of himself.
That is Eddie.
Or, what if the elevator opened and Eddie didn't wake up? Sort of 9x18 fix it (depends on what you define as fixing) for Buck’s reaction and the aftermath.

Summary
Buck reaches over Eddie's torso to grab the arm he very purposefully splayed as far away as possible. Eddie quickly gets a face full of Bucks' chest and regrets his decision. Mostly.
With both wrists now in his grasp, Buck pins Eddie's arms to his chest. He gives him a look as if to say, "Stay," before getting up. It definitely doesn’t make his stomach flip.
Way to be professional, Eddie.
or: The team gets called to the academy to do demos for the recruits and Buck drags Eddie around like a sack of potatoes.

Summary
He glanced, and he saw Buck. But he didn’t hear anything.
His body reacted before his mind could; he grunted at the pain that shot up his arm, into his shoulder, but he kept reaching. Reaching until his fingers found Buck's neck, until the steady thump of his heart registered. Eddie puffed out a breath, his own heart hammering in his chest. He was fine. Buck didn’t stir at Eddie’s touch; in fact, he started snoring, his breath evening out. Eddie isn’t sure how long he kept his fingers on Buck's pulse after that, but he knows it was long enough that the thumping of Buck's heart calmed his own. Until he knew, even without checking, that their hearts beat in rhythm. That Buck was alive, and he was alive, and they were both beaten and bruised and probably more fucked up than Eddie cared to admit at the moment, but they were going home, together.
Buck’s pulse kept beating under his touch. Alive, alive, alive.
Or, Eddie crashes out over not knowing how to help Buck and goes to Maddie, who clocks him :)
