Once Eloise leaves Colin's room, Penelope and Colin's proximity changes its tone; maybe it’s all in Penelope’s head, but there’s an intimacy here as she burrows into Colin’s naked chest, like it’s where she belongs. It feels like she does. It feels like he’s supposed to hold her like this, captivate her with the heat of his flesh, the depths of his breaths, and the strength of his hold. It feels a little like home, and it devastates her to think like that.
But this is what she’s missed the most. These unparalleled moments where there are no guards or boundaries or weirdness. The parts of him that make her feel the softest, when he’s affectionate with her through touch, like yes, he missed her as in her personality, but also her as in the feeling of her skin and the softness of her hair, because she’s missed those things from him, too.
