Summary
All Jason cares about is working like a well-oiled machine in the field. He is goddamn efficient, that’s what he is.
The Red Hood is keeping Crime Alley safe, that’s all that matters. The Jason Todd of it all doesn’t.
He patrols and he times his…downtime for whenever he’s not patrolling.
He copes, he manages, he compartmentalizes.
It works, it’s working,
it may not be.

Summary
He fucking hates this.
Hates the gaps.
Hates the static buzzing behind his eyes like a faulty radio signal.
Hates that sometimes his memories feel less like memories and more like stories someone forced into his skull until he stopped being able to tell the difference.
Hates that sometimes he loses hours and sometimes he loses seconds and somehow the seconds feel worse because at least with hours there's enough missing space to pretend it never happened.
Hates that he is standing on Dick Grayson’s fire escape in sleep shorts at who knows what time while his chest feels too tight for his lungs and his brain keeps pulling in opposite directions hard enough to make him nauseous.
Jason’s mind can’t seem to understand what it needs.

Summary
Jason is small, when Bruce first brings him home. Dick comes back from Bludhaven to meet this kid that Bruce effectively kidnapped and he’s ready to see this kid and accuse Bruce of having a complex, the kid of being a scammer, Alfred of being irresponsible, and it all wastes away when he sees this thirteen year old with scarred, knobby knees and elbows and too-big hands and a chipped tooth and his first thought is: he’s too small. His second thought: he looks like Bruce. His third thought: shit.
OR
Dick feels like his relationship with Jason has always, always been a struggle, one where he’s never on the right foot. After helping Jason recover from being abducted by Mask, though, he thinks he’s starting to figure it out.

Summary
The roaring in his ears is tumultuous, and the fever is a bitch.
Jason was bundled in every layer he could find in his closet. The only skin he left exposed were his face and fingers, but the fall knocked his hood off his head and now he can feel the cold radiating off the ground on his neck. His face feels impossibly hot, and his hands are impossibly cold.
“What the fuck,” he mumbles.
“Baby,” coos Life, "I'm not yet done with you.”

Summary
Jason is only a vertical corpse encased in compact mud when Death reaches down and pulls, tugs him up through the ground. It takes little effort. Death is a sensible thing, but bringing Jason back from the dead for the fourth time is not a sensible thing to do. She is messing with something more dangerous than herself.
He’ll be fine, she thinks. She hopes his father will come get him, thinks of how overjoyed they will be to have Jason back. And so Death steps back. She’ll let the living handle Jason Todd.
Jason dies fourteen times before anyone seems to notice.
