Summary
You struggled to remember where you were, your thoughts slow and buzzing. The soldiers—they had said something about sedation, about how you weren't safe—but where were they?
It was dark outside, the shadowy forms of tall pines passing by too quickly for you to be able to focus. You tried to reach for the driver, a man with a cap pulled low over his face, the cab too dark to see his face.
A hand caught yours, circling around your wrist gently, carefully, the broad thumb dipping low to caress your gland.
"Hi, sweetheart."Bookmarked by teak101

“Where are ye goin’, doll?” he laughs, but there's an edge to it, and you're careful not to toss yourself over. “You cannae be runnin’ from me.”
“Let me go,” you retort, your tone sharpened but reedy.
Your soul mate opens his mouth to reply, but he's interrupted by another voice, gruff and entirely too close—you jump when it sounds from right behind you. “Ease up, Johnny. She's skittish.”
The man, your soul mate—Johnny, apparently? You wince internally at the misfortune of his name—flashes the other man a cheeky smile. “I can see that, Lt. Lass would disappear if I let ‘er.”
“So don't let ‘er.”

Summary
Humans did not need a fertility crisis to become monsters. The Sahren did.
They crossed galaxies to find the woman who had been hidden from them. The government hid her once more because spite is easier than diplomacy.
For a woman who had never felt loved or accepted, this could have been mistaken for salvation. But love, in a dying species, is not a soft thing. It arrives with intent. Her people will call her their beloved daughter, one final miracle. And they mean every word. They will also expect, as a species that has been mourning itself for centuries, that she will come to want what they want.
Some of them will not wait for her to want it.

This includes a reverse-harem structure, but with a primary emotional throughline. The courtship is political, coercive, and messy; affection does not erase the horror.Bookmarked by teak101
