Summary
It's a truth Sloane had known or at least guessed at, but the weight of it actually coming from his mouth nearly knocks her senseless. It occurs to her in a moment of panic that they're still young, at war, that her family is dead, half the people she knows are dead, that their existence right now still consists mostly of staying off the daily death roll, but it's her mother's voice she hears in her head, saying - that's all the more reason to love him now, isn't it?

Summary
Sloane had volunteered for Archives duty to feel closer to Liam, definitely not to keep encountering Dain Aetos at the crack of dawn.
And she doesn't agree to help him look for answers about his mother because she cares about him. She doesn't agree at all, really. She just keeps finding herself next to him on the Archives floor - at least an arm's length away, of course. It's not him - it's just that if there's one thing she's an expert in, it's loss, and she wants to believe it's possible for something to be found.

Marriage, pregnancy, and parenthood in peacetime.

"I need to hear you say it." Dain's fingers are still gentle on the curve of her jaw, but his free hand is flexing at his side, like he's absolutely itching to touch her more.
By way of answer, she points to the complex, layered pattern that she's just woven, the lines crisp and neat and perfect. "Family. Abundance. Healthy pregnancy. Healthy children," she explains.
"Say it," he whispers again, inhaling sharply into her hair when she wraps her arms around his neck. "Please say it."

Summary
"Hey. Sloane. Come back to me," he's saying, light fingers slipping under the shirt she'd stolen from him to rub her bare back. It's another routine they've quietly settled into. Always in Tyrrish, always a gentle anchor when one of them has slipped from the present back into the confines of their own mind.

Summary
"I don't want to kill you." It comes out more forcefully than she intends, and his eyebrows raise for the briefest moment, his eyes full of something she can't name. "Or hurt you."
"If you really had wanted to," Dain starts, his voice sounding like it's been raked over hot coals. "I would've handed you the fucking dagger myself, Mairi."

Summary
When Sloane storms into Dain's quarters after being grounded for disobeying orders, she's soaked to the skin, furious, and ready for a fight. But challenging Dain has consequences - especially when she's been pushing his limits for weeks. What starts as an argument quickly turns into a dangerous game of power, punishment, and control, where the line between discipline and desire vanishes fast.
She’s bratty, defiant, and reckless. He’s controlled, dominant, and tired of being tested. And neither of them is ready to back down.

“Husband, actually.”

Summary
some time has passed since part 4, and enough tension has built up between them that Dain and Sloane are both frustrated, on edge
…“And his own frustration rises with hers, everything that’s built up in him over the past weeks, the insufferable meeting he’s just had to deal with, and the bratty fucking attitude she seems intent at throwing at him.
Sloane ducks under him, pushing him away as she heads for the door.
‘I’m going to go get laid.’
Dain grabs her arm in an instant, spinning her back towards him.
‘The fuck you are.’
‘Excuse me?’ she spits the words at him, trying and failing to yank her arm out of his grip.
He grabs her other arm, holding her as she struggles.
‘I said the fuck you are. You’re not going anywhere Sloane.’”Series
