A week and a half ago, Jay stumbled on an opportunity to write a spec score for the new Madagascar movie. A week and a half ago, he locked in on the knowledge he could actually, really, just be Jay, and not Matt & Jay. So a week ago, Jay was trying to figure out a way to let Matt down easy, un-embed him from his flesh a bit, loosen the grip of Matt’s teeth on his calf enough that they could just be normal friends, who hang out, and aren’t embroiled in a bizarre psychodrama together, so Matt doesn’t think they’re more than they are, that Jay feels the same intense way he does, that they’re going to get buried together and have one headstone: Here Lies Jay McCarrol (1983-2065) and His Best Friend Forever, Matt Johnson (1985-2066), They Will Be Roommates In Heaven :D

"I don't want to get naked!" Jay groused, a sour, sullen expression on his face.
Matt grit his teeth. It was unfair how even with an expression like that, Jay was still terribly, annoyingly handsome. The man had a classical attractiveness to him, the kind that evoked thoughts of Cary Grants and Al Pacinos, but what they possessed in charm and wit, Jay lacked entirely. Between his doe eyes sat a brain made of gelatin and he had the personality of a spoiled child. It was clear he was aware of his good looks — and what they could do for him in life.
"We’re not having this conversation again, Bird. It's almost like you don’t want me to reach the zenith of my artistic expression or something!"

“Step one!” He exclaimed, writing on the board as he spoke. “We…get…married.” He pressed ahead, leaving no room for interruptions. Jay’s melody eased into something a bit slower, lighter, guiding Matt’s words.
“Step two! We go to the Rivoli…we say ‘Hi we just got married and this is our reception. Oh look, here comes the wedding band now!’ But OH-WHAT’S THIS?
Step three! SURPRISE! We ARE the band!” Capping the marker with a triumphant snap, Matt wheeled around to face Jay who had wrapped them up with a few joyous notes that sounded like the morning sunshine flooding their living room.

"Aww what's wrong Bird? You don't want to sign onto my care team? You wound me! I thought what we had was special, does 'in sickness and in health' mean nothing to you? That's fucked up." He lets himself bathe in the light of Jay's discomfort, of the rise he gets out of him, how he knows Jay's heart is beating faster because of him. If it were possible to overdose on it Matt would have been dead a long time ago.
