Phainon shivers. "Not work," he says, watching the witcher blink, breathe, study him. From his mannerisms alone, he reminds Phainon of a half-tamed animal. Alert, keenly aware of everything. They say witchers can smell fear. What, then, does he smell on Phainon? "But I have another request."
"Speak, then."
He inhales, swipes his tongue over his lips to taste the rainwater on them. "When you set off," Phainon says, "take me with you."

Mydei just wants to fight monsters, collect his paycheck, and move on to the next miserable village and the next miserable client with something to slay. So he watches him slumber, for there is nothing else to do, or so he tells himself. Like this, he can observe all he wants, and the mermaid can’t make a fuss. He brings a gentle hand to tuck his bangs behind his ear, and traces his fingertips down his jaw.
Even if he finds Phainon irritating, even if he wishes to be alone, he can’t relinquish the fact he saved him. Found him in the dark abyss and plucked him from his grave. For that, he does not know if he should be grateful, but he knows he should be less harsh with him.
Mydeimos tries to find a cure for his terminally ill mother, Queen Gorgo, but attempt after attempt he fails. On his last chance, he captures a mermaid, a creature whose flesh should solve his woes, but he can't bring himself to kill and sets him free.
And when his father learns of such an act years later, he condemns him to drown in the same ocean where he enacted his betrayal, only to be saved by the very same mermaid who brings him to a secluded island to heal.

Between each word, he kissed Phainon’s knuckles again and again, desperate to convey what fate denied them—that he wanted this devotion in their lifetime too, but prophecy had already stolen that chance. “When death finally takes me away from you,” he repeated softly, lips brushing skin, “I will hold you with my other hand… and promise to find you in that new tomorrow you will deliver us to.”

But why is the sun hiding under the dark, branches shade under his body while it was meant for the sun to shine bright for others. It’s as if the candle lit off, glooming in the dark after it had shunned for a very long time. Has he always been this pathetic for losing a battle that hasn’t even begun? Phainon could always try to win Mydei’s heart, learn a thing or two about Hephaestion’s relationship, or even ask if they were meant for each other?

In short, Phainon learned that Mydei mourns deeply for Hephaestion, claiming that he once fell for him. Now that they reunite, Phainon had no chance to win Mydei and chose to spiral in his own demise. But the Kremnoan Detachment boys took interest instead, and probably cheer him up?

As soon as Phainon stepped foot into the garden, his eyes immediately zeroed on Mydei sitting in the sea of bright flowers. His parents were beside him, quietly talking to each other.
Phainon’s breath hitched but before he could walk away and try another day, Beagle Coconut broke away from the mini chimera formation at Phainon’s legs with an excited shriek as soon as it spotted Fig Stew sleeping near Mydei. It barreled into the poor creature, talking a mile per minute and ignoring Fig Stew’s sleepy hissing and bristling fur. Beagle Coconut’s blue eyes sparkled like two little stars as it relayed everything that happened to it in the short time they were separated.
Phainon felt himself die a little inside. Was that how he acted when he was away from Mydei for a few days?
a strange curse had befallen the newly restored Amphoreus causing all of her people to wake up with breathing, living manifestations of their emotions. Phainon tries to deal with it the best way he can but it's hard, not only because he, for some reason, has three manifestations but also because now he has no choice but to face the true emotions of people closest to him. specifically... Mydei's.
