“Walk me through what you’re thinking.”
Dr. Langdon’s voice came from behind her. Before she had the chance to turn, he stepped closer, leaning over her shoulder to look down at the screen.
It happened so fast. The warmth of him at her back. The clean scent of soap mixed with coffee and something else she couldn’t place. His hand reached around her to point at something on the screen and for half a second, his arm brushing against hers and she became acutely aware of the little space remaining between their bodies.
Her pulse stuttered. Any explanation she had died in her throat, instead only a quiet, choked noise came out. She was effectively frozen, completely against her control.

“It’s kinda stupid, but Abby always liked the clean shaved look,” he explains, “and we’ve been separated for months now and I just wanted to try No Shave November for the first time.”
“Well it looks good on you,” she says before she can stop herself.
“Does it?” he says, brightening considerably. “Abby always hated it—made me shave it off immediately.”
“I think it’s nice,” she remarks, eyes roving over his face. She’s not sure what about it is so enticing, but there’s just something about Frank’s square jaw, his chin dimple, his dark brows, even his bright blue eyes, that stand out more with the addition of the coarse hair along his jawline, around his mouth.
She wonders what it feels like.
Or, Mel shows up to work with a ponytail, and Frank shows up to work with stubble and both of them lose their damn minds over it :)

The taste of her is tangy and sweet on his tongue and he would stay here forever, he thinks, if she'd let him.

“Just as a note,” the dentist tells Frank, her voice low. “She may be a little… rambunctious as the sedatives wear off.”
He nods in response, his eyes trained on Mel. She grins at him, unaware that she is the topic of conversation. Rambunctious, he thinks. What could sweet Mel possibly do to be described as rambunctious?

But Frank was the one who had taken her under his wing that first day, watched out for her, listened to her, learned from her. He was kind, in a way that didn’t feel like he was pitying her or babying her. Frank respected her as a doctor, as a person, and Mel now wanted to know how he’d treat her as a woman.
