Akechi and Sumire go silent. Fair enough – it’s probably the toughest question Mishima posed to them this afternoon. Finally Akechi speaks up. “I go out to the courts, picture Akira’s face on the back of the wall, and then start hitting like my life depends on it.”
Sumire bursts into astounded laughter. “No way! I do the same thing!”
Mishima’s eyes dart worriedly between the two of them. Does Akira actually have two targets on his head???

Summary
Sumire, eyes closed, leans into Akira’s touch as far as she possibly can. To hell with feeling selfish, too, right? She nods forcefully, though the gesture is absorbed by their bodies, causing their entangled form to awkwardly sway together instead. The silliness of it draws an overjoyed bubble of laughter from Akira that reverberates through Sumire as well, so sweet, so lovely. And she can’t help but laugh, too. He gathers her up even closer in his arms, almost lifting her off the ground entirely. All the cold she’s been carrying seems to evaporate from her body. There’s just warmth here – just warmth.
Who cares if it counts or doesn’t – at least I can have this, right here, right now.
