    Summary

Shane is admitted against his will after his world becomes too loud to survive.

Ilya has already learned that survival and living are not the same thing.

Forced to share a room in an adolescent psychiatric ward, two boys with very different kinds of damage learn that understanding can arrive in unexpected places - and that healing is rarely gentle.

Or : Shane gets assigned the angry Russian boy with a history of fighting with roommates, Ilya gets stuck with the anxious Canadian who stares too much, and somehow an involuntary psychiatric admission becomes the place where they find friendship, understanding, and eventually love.

Then like an anomaly in one of his datasets, a green OPEN tag appears next to one of the restaurants. Shane squints his eyes, having difficulty seeing properly without his glasses.

Shane doesn't bother reading them. He taps on the website and waits for it to load. Only to be met with error.

Sighing he exits the page and keeps on scrolling. Nothing that is open catches his interest and the rest are closed. He's wondering how stale celery would taste dipped in pickle juice when his eyes land on Irina's Kitchen once more.

There's a phone number under the address. Shane bites his lower lip and wonders if he should call.

A woman with an accented voice picks up after the 5th ring.

    “Hello?”

“Uh, hey, are you guys still open?”

    Hi Ilya,

My name is Shane! I don’t speak Russian, I hope that’s okay. I’m also 25 years old and I love hockey too! So we have some things in common.

I’ve never written an inmate before. I don’t really know why I’m doing this. I guess I’m lonely. I’m not very good at making friends or dating. I think maybe I can be a bit awkward in person, but I’m good at writing. So I hope that’s okay.

    Summary

A short (hopefully) and lighthearted story built from my own thoughts and interpretations of Jean and Jeremy’s future.
Told through the eyes of their eldest daughter, Jane, this story follows the quiet, messy, and sometimes tender moments of their everyday lives, far beyond the court and everything they left behind.
From small domestic scenes to the challenges of building a family, Jane observes what it means to grow up in a home shaped by love, trauma, and second chances. Through her perspective, we see not only who Jean and Jeremy have become, but also the kind of parents they are trying to be.
Because sometimes, the hardest part isn’t surviving the past, it’s learning how to live after it.
