Tommy will get to hold his kid until he grows too big, and then set him down one day and not realize it was the last until way down the road. And even then, he’ll have the opportunity to still gather his son in his arms because Joel will make sure of it.

It isn't uncommon for Joel to come home bearing gifts. He's always finding little trinkets on patrol that he thinks Ellie would like, or trading within Jackson's community when something that would suit her catches his eye. Ellie received items ranging anywhere from wall decor to DVDs to new bedding. She cherishes everything brought to her. The sentiment that Joel thinks about her so often lives strongly in her mind, and she loves how well he seems to know her even after such limited time.
So when Joel comes home and presents a velvety red dress adorned with a large white bow, Ellie can’t help but falter a bit.
"I was thinkin' about the holiday party comin' up and I know you were sayin' how you don't have anything to wear…”
Joel strokes a hand down the soft fabric of the gown, and there's a reminiscent glint in his eyes.
"Sarah used to have a dress just like this. I figured you could have one too."*

Ilya gets off his bike and wraps his sweaty arms around Shane’s sweaty shoulders, presses their sweaty heads together and holds him tight. “Nooo, Hollander, you cannot leave me. Who will put Barrett and Marly in time out when they fuck up too many shots in a row?”
“I’m sure Bood will do it. He loves bossing people around.”
Bood stands up straight and salutes his captains. “I take the title with great honor. Enjoy the Ravens, Hollander—your legacy of being a chaste Victorian debutante will be remembered fondly but not carried on.”
This snaps that last thread of Shane’s refined patience. “I can pick up girls! I have no problem getting numbers and calling them and talking!”
Hazy smirks. “Innocent until proven guilty.”
“I can pick people up,” Shane says again, moving off his bike and out of Ilya’s sweaty embrace. “And I don’t have to do it by concocting schemes or stripping on top of the LAX bros’ coffee table.”
