Tyler was diagnosed with leukemia but he wasn't receiving chemotherapy. His parents didn't "believe in medicine" or any medical attention for that matter. They thought overcoming a sickness naturally was the right way to go. None of the Joseph kids ever got medicine for their colds or fevers.
Josh was the rich boy he met at the skatepark who he was crushing on.
