Summary
“You remember the first time I took you out of town for a job?”
Mob thinks. “I’m not sure. Maybe. Where did we go again?”
“Some haunted motel. Anyway, you were really young back then. And when we got there, I sort of panicked and ended up telling everyone you were my kid. To, I don’t know, make it seem less suspicious. I guess.” Reigen laughs humorlessly. “That was so stupid. I wasn’t anywhere near old enough to be your father.”

Summary
Mob stops by Spirits and Such during his lunch break that Wednesday, which comes as a pleasant surprise to Reigen.
Halfway through their shared order of takoyaki, however, he invites Reigen to Ritsu’s upcoming twenty-fourth birthday party. Which comes as a different sort of surprise.
Reigen bursts out laughing. Crumbs spray out of his mouth.
“So you’ll come?” asks Mob, grinning back at him.
“What are you talking about?” Reigen mops his lips with the tissue Mob hands him. “He doesn’t actually want me there, does he?”

Summary
Reigen runs his fingers through Mob’s bangs, strokes his soft cheek. He looks so serene like this that Reigen simply can’t imagine him metamorphosing into some kind of sinister apocalyptic shadow creature tonight.
An hour or two later, Reigen wakes up to a sinister apocalyptic shadow creature standing beside the bed, staring down at him.

Summary
“In just a few months, Shigeo will go to university,” Ekubo says, gathering all the ominous darkness of an evil spirit into his voice. “Who knows what’ll happen then.”
“It’s not up to us.”
“We could lose him, Reigen.”
Reigen sighs. “He was never ours to lose. And anyway: you’re wrong. We won’t lose him. Not in the ways that matter. I’ll always be his master. And you’ll always be”—he meets Ekubo’s eyes now and smiles sharply—“his pet.”

Summary
For five years, he limits himself to the blood of animals. It’s flavorless as mud, but it’s better than nothing.
