Teresa couldn't escape it. How had she been so foolish to think she could ever be free from the thoughts that haunt her at night, the face that appears in her dreams, the screams she heard when it was silent for too long? Her heart raced as her thoughts just wouldn't leave her alone. Had she seriously seen him that night? She couldn't have, right?
Thomas was gone, Ava had told her that herself.

"I could help you with that." Dr. Paige had suggested that day they looked over the Last City. Of course, she'd kindly denied. Janson had then hurried Ava off to some secluded spot, and she heard the whispers from the nurses later that day. But as the brunette passed them, they'd all fallen as silent as a mouse before one greeted her with a reassuring smile. She had returned the smile, but she couldn't unhear what they said. "He was spotted at the borders of the Last City. Could he be with the Rebels?"
Her heart had been racing the entire day, before she finally went home. What she didn't anticipate was seeing Thomas right across the crossroads.

All of me, huh? Could he do that? He'd done so much in secret for so long, it felt terrifying to drag it all into the light. But for Till? For himself and the chance that this time, maybe, they could be different?
"Yeah."
And then Till looked over his shoulder, caught Ivan's gaze and held it. "Thank you. I know I'm really late in saying it. But I'm also really, really happy that I still have the chance to say it at all."
Till believed Ivan died sacrificing himself for him. Ivan believed Till died in the fiery destruction of the Alien Stage.
And neither knew that the other survived.

Summary
