    Summary

"We were so worried, we heard you—" Ragatha starts, and then looks up. She meets Jax's gaze dead-on, and goes silent. Tears brim in the corner of her eye. Her hand flies up to cover her mouth. He can't tell if the look on her face is relief or fear.

Gangle's staring at him like she's seen a ghost. Pomni slowly raises to her feet, brows furrowed. She winces as every movement jars her wavering form.

Cowered on the floor, panting, confused and disoriented, with everyone standing above him, taller than him… it reminds Jax of something deeply unpleasant. They're all staring at him. They're all seeing him.

Jax knows they're not going to like what they see.

His breath quickens until his head is spinning, and he feels like he's going to vomit. He forces himself upwards with a frustrated cry, swaying in place, and then turns and bolts towards his room as fast as he can.

    "NO!" Pomni screams.

(or: pomni pulls jax back from the brink.)

    Summary

“You know,” Olruggio says, roughly. He doesn’t move to take Qifrey’s hand again. “You know. You can’t not know, Qifrey.”

Qifrey just looks at him. “I do.”

    The rain continues falling.

(And so Olruggio forgets. And he inevitably figures it out again, because of course he does; and he inevitably chooses to forget again, and again, and again, because his heart is always the same. The story is always the same. Like a tale from under a silverwood tree, like a myth from the days of old, not so much tied by the constraints of the narrative so much as being narrative itself. Antigone must bury her brother. Iphigenia must be put to death. At a thousand turns, in a thousand ways, Orpheus must turn, and he must look, again, and again.

    And Olruggio forgets.)

There is an old story about a witch and a silverwood tree.

    Summary

Sherlock’s hand moves slowly, giving John plenty of time to move, to avoid him.

John doesn’t move. Why would he? His chest seizes violently as Sherlock’s hand settles lightly over his own where it’s resting on the counter, and John ignores the feelings and Sherlock’s face and the electric tinge in the space between them.

    “Tell me,” Sherlock says, unerring.

It’s a fairly standard Thursday when Mariana launches John headfirst into a sexuality crisis. In a perfect world, he would react with poise, thoughtfulness and introspection.

In a perfect world, though, he would already have known.
