“Well,” Song Mingi drawled, pushing open the dark oak door. A smell of wood polish and alcohol hit his nostrils. “Good evening, gentlemen.” He tipped the wide brim of his hat to each of the three other customers in turn. He smirked to himself. These were not gentlemen; these were wanted fugitives, outlaws, pirates. The WANTED posters on the walls advertised the fact well.
Each pair of eyes tracked him across the floor, measuring him up. Two of them paused their card game to stare at him.
Mingi’s footsteps rang like gunshots on the unadorned mahogany floorboards as he made his way to the bar. The barman followed his progress with dark eyes and an unreadable expression.
“You came,” he said when Mingi eventually reached the counter. “Good evening, Song Mingi.”
