Summary
Ashur kept pacing back and forth, occasionally glancing at the three bags on the table as if their seal would change if he only looked closely enough. Or perhaps the document next to them would transform into something innocuous.
He hadn’t wanted to believe it. Not when Tarpeia and Marisa had told him about the clandestine meetings between Tarquin and a templar they knew reported to the Venatori. Not when a search of Tarquin’s flat had produced the coin bags bearing a Venatori Vecellinus magister’s seal. Not when they had unearthed a document promising Tarquin a substantial promotion or when Dorian had brought back news from Ventus that Tarquin’s family had had some good luck recently – a promotion, a dispute settled in their favour, an advantageous marriage proposal, debts that had been settled.
All the evidence against him and Ashur hadn’t wanted to believe it. Not until he had seen Tarquin hand over documents himself. A message encoded in the lineage papers that were Tarquin’s bread and butter down at the archives. Tarpeia had even said it was genius as she had decoded it. -

Summary
Hux is just out of the Academy, just eighteen and already on track with a promising commission. His father invites him home for a political dinner, the ones young Hux has always been ushered away from. The guests are Imperial officers who haven't quite thrown in their lot with the First Order, and his father hopes to bring them into the fold.
Hux feels very grown up, flattered by their attention and compliments and how seriously they treat him. And the liquor they keep pouring him, more than he's ever been allowed to drink before. Afterward he's shuffled along with the group into the study, where things escalate until he's being passed around like a joint while the older officers talk shop.

Summary
Later, when the chamber had gone quiet and the household slept under the weight of the news now spreading through it like dark water, Egg had a cot dragged in by the hearth. It was not fitting for a king, but today he was not a king.
Because once, years ago, there had been roads. Hard ground. Rain through leaves. A boy in borrowed boots and a great foolish knight beside him, always near enough that waking in the dark did not feel like waking alone.
Tonight, if he could give Duncan back even the smallest piece of that, he would.

Summary
It’s a small enough thing, the Baratheon stag engraved into the lid. It had perhaps been locked once, but the salty sea air of Storm’s End softens most wood after enough years, and the latch tears clean out when he gives it a good pull. Old too, then. Inside is another bundle of parchment, neatly folded and tied with fraying twine.
More damned papers, he thinks for a disappointed moment, nearly shutting it again- what a waste this whole venture had been. But these do not look like more records. There is something personal in how they have been handled and hidden away, and Renly begins picking at the twine with curious fingers. When it falls away, he unfolds the first sheet, and finds a letter.
Milord Lyonel, it begins.
[Renly Baratheon, young and full of confusing feelings, discovers that he may not be as alone as he believes.]

Summary
Of course Ashur has a—a thing for the Divine. Of course he does. Because Tarquin’s life is a comedy and Ashur’s is so distant it’s practically unreal.
Not that it matters to him. Why would it?
