Summary
When they pull the body out of the wreckage, he will identify it as Boyd Crowder no matter what because that’s what Raylan Givens was called in to do.
On the plane home, Raylan tries to determine if Boyd ever got to fly in a plane when he wasn’t on his way to or from some pointless war. Tries not to let it get to him what happened to that young, green eyed boy who sat in the bleachers while his baby brother practiced how to be the worst kind of man. The one whose black hair always looked like it was trying to reach the stars he’d talk about one day being amongst as if Raylan couldn’t see them glittering already in his eyes. -

This is going to be a collection of warm up prompts and similar. Short things meant to pass the time or work on writing blocks. Things like that. I am using for my prompts for these a book called The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows which provides me both the titles as well as the words I plan to use. Each time, the word and its definition will be in the summary.

Summary
"The Weary Traveller" by Ranata Suzuki
You were a road stop on my journey, that’s what I keep telling myself.
Some out-of-the-way oasis I stumbled upon at a point in my life
I was so tired, I honestly didn’t want to go on any more.
You felt like an adventure, yet you felt like home.
Every new aspect of you I uncovered felt intriguing yet familiar, like I had explored you before in some long forgotten dream.
You were a place I could have stayed forever … a place I didn’t want to leave behind.
A place I will always be grateful for, whose name I will never forget, and that I will search for in my travels for the rest of my days whilst knowing in my heart I will never find it again. You were a road stop on my journey … that’s what I keep telling myself.
I just wish you’d been the destination.

There's a bright curve of teeth from Boyd and Raylan's almost certain that's what got him into trouble in the first place.

Bookmarker's Notes
“Raylan, I don’t want or need you to care. It genuinely isn’t important to me if you remember dates like this or not,” Bob says. His thick fingers move dexterously over paper, creating a new physicality to the flat paper. Raylan wishes they were showing him the attention they show to their craft. He wishes the idea of Bob touching him right now didn’t sort of make him feel like needles were rolling around under his skin.
“You clearly care. You insisted I show up tonight,” Raylan says. He feels raw, that he almost missed this, that he almost missed something so important to Bob, as tired as he was, calling in to go home and crash on his bed. It’s not fair to him, that Bob didn’t–he feels cagey and wild. He feels uncomfortable with the idea, like clothes he’d grown out of but hadn’t yet gotten the hand-me-down replacements from the Church.
“Clearly,” Bob answers, evenly. “I do care. I care, Raylan. I wanted to spend time with you,” he says, looking around, “And here we are.” He gives Raylan a wry grin while he tilts his head with wide, humorous eyes. “Granted, I hadn’t expected to spend it bickering like an old married couple, but I did get what I wanted.”
“I would have gotten you a gift,” Raylan tries. “I would want to make it special for you. Because you care.”
Bob flicks the newly-crafted paper butterfly over to Raylan. It brushes against his knuckles. “Raylan,” Bob says. “If I wanted to do gifts, I would have asked for one. I would have gotten you one. If I wanted a fancy dinner, I would have invited you to one.”
Raylan frowns. Well, yeah, he could have. He grabs the butterfly and runs his index over its creases.
“Do you wanna know what makes this special for me? You,” Bob says with a warm smile. “I wanted to see you to celebrate a year. And here you are, dead on your feet, running on empty. You didn’t show up because you thought you had to for an anniversary or because you thought it’d make you a bad boyfriend if I didn’t.”
Raylan shifts awkwardly. His stomach is uneasy, rolling. His back feels too stiff and too hunched over. He feels bare, like he needs another layer over his Henley, despite the summer heat lingering in the air even as the sun sets. This sweltering heat condenses water to the outside of Bob’s glass. An old fan clicks above their heads, loud and rickety as it attempts to bring a breeze to the stale air. “You asked,” he says. He doesn’t know what else to say.
“Exactly,” Bob says, smiling as if that proves anything, let alone everything. “Because I asked. Makes a man feel special to know that a humble request would have you push so hard for him. I told you. I wanted to spend time with you. And I am. I don’t care if we spend it arguing or fucking or eating.”
“Hardly a fight,” Raylan grouses, prodding the paper butterfly between his thumbs. He knows knock-down, drag-out. This wasn’t anything.
“Hardly a fight at all,” Bob agrees, laughing, “Besides, I like that ornery bastard side of you, too. It’s not like I never knew who you were, Raylan. In high school, I watched you whip Andy Southgate into such a fury that he came at you like a bull instead of a man.”
“He deserved it,” Raylan says, stabbing a fork into his eggs.
“I’ve missed you, too,” Raylan says. He shifts his hand to the side to pinch the butt of the frog. It jumps toward Bob. “If it’s our anniversary, should we order ice cream? Cake?”
Bob smiles. “The chocolate cake here is to die for.”
“No vanilla?” Raylan frowns.
Bob laughs. “Chocolate cake pairs well with vanilla ice cream.” He finishes fiddling with the paper in his hands. He lifts up to reveal a small flower. He tucks the stem behind Raylan’s ear. “I can’t say this suits you more than the hat, but I’d say it suits you all the same,” Bob says, hands at his hips as he admires his handiwork.

Summary
Boyd had a habit of letting his curiosity (his controlling need to know people’s secrets) get him into trouble.
Sometimes this meant jail. Sometimes this meant dead bodies.
On one particularly exceptional occasion, this meant a butt plug.
Said occasion proved to eventually be extremely disruptive to his life.
Surprisingly, far more so than killing people tended to be.

Top 5 Boyd POV voices of all time.
- Last read Chapter 16
Derek this is a strongly worded reminder to you that you need to comment on this for real for real. Full comments too. Chapter by chapter bit by bit because it deserves that sort of treatment. So well crafted and well paced. Please don't forget to comment on this and if you're reading this any time after this bookmark is saved and haven't yet commented get the fuck back in here and do it now. Now now now. Also really intrigued to see the fallout from how Boyd has definitely not been a good boyfriend to Ava. Getting fucked by Raylan and all certainly fried his brain.
Love it when Raylan clearly loves and enjoys Boyd's company even if Boyd has made himself a narrative.
