“Frankie-”
Frank shakes his head frantically, “I’m not crazy, don’t look at me like that!” And even if he was, he feels pretty fucking strongly that he is allowed to rave like a mad man after that. “I’m not fucking crazy, you saw it!”
Gerard sighs quietly, reaching out to touch Frank's cheek. “I know you’re scared-” he sounds so reasonable that it makes rage seer through the smaller man’s veins.
On most occasions, Frank loves hearing those gentle tones from Gerard’s mouth. This is not one of those moments. Gerard is trying to calm Frank down, and Frank will not be fucking calmed down.

Summary
Born and raised New Yorker Calum Hood is temporarily reassigned to a job site in the middle of nowhere New Jersey for six months. After accepting his fate of being miserable the entire time, he ends up meeting a group of three boys who quickly become some of his closet friends and help him to see all the things he's been missing by never leaving his own backyard.
Cue a playlist of early-2000s emo music, unexpected farm animals, summer nights under the stars, discovering who you are, falling in love, and a whole lotta nostalgia.

Summary
The first thing he notices is that the main tent – the big top – isn’t red and white, but is instead black, silver and purple. That seems to be the colour scheme throughout, because each of smaller tents that are dotted around the field is a variation of those colours. Some are black with silver stars, others purple with black moons, and so many more combinations Luke can't even count. The people who work here are easy to tell apart from the visitors. They’re dressed completely in black and wearing purple or silver accessories – hats, suspenders, shoes, bowties. Their faces painted black and white – as skeletons, some kind of monsters or with symbols on their cheeks. Luke hasn’t been close enough to see what any of the symbols are yet.
Luke is dragged to the circus by his brother and ends up falling for the magician's assistant.

“Luke, Michael.” Ashton says, nodding to each respectively. “Michael, Luke.”
Michael knew who Luke was the second he seen him, and when Luke hears his name and sees his face, his own face drains of colour and Michael knows he recognises him, too. But he’s quick to recompose himself, sticking his hand out and saying “Hey.”

Summary
The moment Calum passes the threshold, Luke’s looking up. His cheeks suddenly get sharp, the magic he possesses shining on his face like glitter, sparkling in the light. Magic recognizes magic, and Luke glares when the familiar spark of Calum’s shapeshifter energy enters the shop.
“What are you doing here?” Luke asks, voice biting as Calum leisurely strolls towards him. “Are my healing stones not enough for you, ‘shifter? You back to steal some more?”
He’s supposed to be angry, and when people are angry at Calum, they look cruel and ugly and scary, but Luke’s never anything but ethereal; especially with all of the magic glimmering on his angular cheeks. Calum drops the bags of stones at his feet, pecking the leather of his boot with his beak and turning to walk out.

Summary
It fills Ashton with a thick sadness, thinking about how little he keeps in touch with everybody. It's not intentional, it never is, but talking to anybody, bringing back memories and making the past seem like more than just a concept, it's like cement bullets ripping through his heart.
"Sometimes talking to you reminds me too much of Calum," he finally admits.
"You know…" Mali places the kettle on the stove and turns around. "He never told me what happened, but whatever it was broke you both."
Ashton doesn't confess anything, but he's been living in pain for the past decade almost, and as much as he wishes Calum's been thinking about him too, he hopes for him to be at peace.

In which Calum breaks off the FWB-arrangement he and Ashton have had for the last two and a half years, and neither of them cope with it particularly well.
