Summary
He remembers the screams that echoed in his ears like silent thunder everywhere he went as his classmates were brutally executed, the haunting laughs of the sadistic bear that he so hated. He remembers his own terror as he sat in a classroom, seconds away from his death, how fright itself seemed like it was strangling and suffocating him as dread pumped in his veins.
There’s nothing he can do, or would do, to forget all this. In his ears, the ghosts of the dead scream and the silent is so painfully throttling that Makoto feels like he’s about to die, again, killed by the plague of quietness that seems to consume him whole.

Summary
Every day, her people prayed and prayed, for the day to mark the last of such suffering, for the day to end the terror that clouded the village from the sunlight’s terrible reign, and Angie is powerless, powerless to stop the spread of pain across her beloved home, powerless to do anything but watch.
She can only watch, as famine and plagues spread across the straw-coloured ground, striking sharp and deep as the ground cracks open, the lack in moisture destroying the glue that had once held the friendly, tight village full of people she once knew together, and she can only watch as it destroys her home inside out. The cries of her people every hour as a comrade falls ill, or drops dead, or suffers from starvation haunt her as she walks the paths that were once smooth sanded rock.

Summary
Snow is falling from the sky as the ever cold and unforgiving wind whips around Shuichi with its iced daggers and snowy blades, beating relentlessly at his face, and he holds his coat closer as his scarf spins around, tossed by the wind. Despite the cold it brings, the snowflakes are graceful, twirling in an elegant dance as they land, covering the cobblestones on the pavement, leaving piles of alabaster fluffiness on the sides of the road: it leaps everywhere, coating the roofs and falling onto Shuichi’s hands. He shivers from the contact- it’s freezing cold, and he’s not wearing gloves- but he smiles at the serenity of the moment nonetheless. It’s cliche, but he likes watching the snow fall. There’s something mesmerizing about how the droplets of softened ice sway to the rondo of the wind, how they fall almost uniformly but there’s a natural irregularity to it that makes it ever so interesting to watch.
Then, the doorbell is finally answered. The doors creak open as Shuichi looks over, and lets a smile spread across his face as Sora opens the door.

Summary
Interlaken was one of Rantaro’s favourite places to travel to when he was alive. He’d only taken Shuichi here once, but there was a certain lightness about him when he was here. There’s just a certain tranquility about this place that makes people feel relaxed, a sort of… thoughtful quietness that makes it really appealing and wonderful. If it weren’t for the fact that Rantaro had lost a sister here, Shuichi thinks to himself, laughing a little, the guy would’ve probably adored this place so much he’d have moved here after graduation. The place was just completely impossible to hate.
His laugh is cut short, though, as he realizes that Rantaro never actually made it through to graduation, that he never even made it out to the world he so deserved a place in.

Summary
Shuichi’s never seen this many stars at once before this trip. It isn’t all that surprising, considering he lives in Tokyo- Tokyo with its roaring speakers and chatter all day long, its countless neon signs and streetlamps that light up the night; loud, bright, exuberant Tokyo- but there’s something about the night sky that even though he’s seen it every night for three weeks, it still manages to render him speechless, to leave him in complete awe every time. In Japan, back at home, the most he can see from his balcony through the thick charcoal fog that coats the city permanently is a star or two spluttering weakly as it coughs and chokes on the immense light pollution. But here, standing at the stern of the boat, everything is laid out, in the widest canvas he’s ever seen. It’s all so clear, so bright, and so perfect.
Perfect, because he isn’t alone on this trip. Perfect, because he has his best friend along with him to guide his way.
