Summary
His jaw is slack, but his eyes are intent. He is tracking every movement Zanka makes, but not in the malicious way his classmates used to. He isn’t waiting for Zanka to mess up; he is trying to observe, to absorb exactly what it is that makes Zanka special. But Zanka doesn’t know this. Zanka only sees something raw, something personal, something so different from what Follo usually looks like. It is not hungry but it is wanting.
It surprises him that something lurks beneath Follo’s easy smiles, his care and kindness. Maybe Zanka just doesn’t pay enough attention, and that irks him. A lot. Because Nijikus should be observant, Nijikus should be careful. And Cleaners should care.
There Follo is, watching Zanka like he has something to learn from him. Perhaps Zanka has something to learn from Follo.

Summary
It was obviously no secret that Dr. Robby's sabbatical was to begin the next day. It was also no secret the man himself wished it began that day, or the day before, or the week before. There was some strange lead-up to it; some weird buzz in the air, an anticipatory hum of change that was quite uncommon in “The Pitt.” Dr. Robinavitch is unmoored, his anchor to Pittsburgh and perhaps the world of the living lifted off and not ready to land anywhere else. There is no way he can stay; he cannot fathom leaving. Maybe it is becoming too real for him, this departure from the place that has held his life in shaking hands for so long.
The end begins like this:
It’s 5PM; word spreads around the emergency department fast. The ED hears, but does little to understand. It’s left to one resident to put the puzzle pieces together.

Summary
If Kou were more articulate, he would tell Mitsuba that nothing would make him turn away from him, that they had both seen each other at their worst and best and Kou would do anything to keep Mitsuba by his side. He would tell Mitsuba that he would give him anything, in the whole world, if it meant they could sit in this classroom together for a little longer. It was a poor translation of his thoughts, yet it still made Mitsuba all flustered. Kou didn’t understand.
So, he said, “I don’t understand you.”
Mitsuba snorted, still flushed. “Will you ever?”

Summary
Honestly, they found it kind of endearing whenever the Sphereite experienced something new. He would get this puzzled look on his face, staring at whatever it was with a hint of suspicion before tilting his head slightly, almost like a curious puppy trying to figure something out.
Naturally, this made the cleaners start to wonder what else Rudo had never experienced before. What other completely normal things had this poor kid missed out on growing up in the slums on the Sphere?

Summary
I don't want to push Sphereite culture on them, Rudo thought. He didn't want to spread that kind of poison on the people who had been so kind to him.
So it stayed locked up in the cage he made for it, where everything he brought with him from the Sphere could only ever eat away at his own insides.
No matter how much it hurt.

Summary
He soaked up the droplets of information, sorted them out into well defined compartments in his mind. A box for Family, a box for the Cleaners, a box for Trash Beasts, a box for Raiders. Within the boxes were folders, information sorted out like a profile he could flip through at any time. The fruits of his education, his siblings would be distraught if they knew why he really continued to upkeep his mental compartments. Zanka’s favorite folder was tucked away in the far corner of the Cleaners Box.
