Maverick is standing in the middle of the kitchen, facing the sliding glass door that looks out towards the beach. He's leaning heavily on his cane, dressed in his blues, two stars on each shoulder board.

Soap is a PhD student, doing his research in Antarctica on the behaviors and hunting habits of leopard seals. During his expedition, he becomes obsessed with a leucistic seal, who he's taken to calling Ghost.
His attempts at tagging Ghost for tracking purposes have all failed, leaving Soap frustrated, but determined to try again. He won't stop until he gets the data he needs for his dissertation.
At the same time, Soap is stuck in an escalating, heated flirting match with a hydroponics employee at another base. It's foolish to form romantic relationships with someone he knows will vanish from his life once their expeditions are over, but there's something fascinating about this man that he can't ignore.
