He reaches out, his hand finding Neil’s face. With deliberate care, he sets his finger against Neil’s forehead and draws a slow line down to the tip of his nose, then back up again, unhurried, as if matching the rhythm of Neil’s breath, easing every bit of tension he can feel melting beneath his touch.
Or, the night before the match against the Ravens, Neil struggles to fall asleep, and Andrew comforts him with a gesture I borrowed from my own childhood, something my mother used to do for me: running a finger from his forehead to his nose
